Still holds true...
Let me first say what I mean by Zen... A moment of enlightenment/a moment where everything just seems perfect, like it all make sense..
Here's my story- I have been riding for just a little over 6 years. First motorcycle had 45k on it when i traded it and got a Raider which I then put 48k then wrecked and now I have a new one LOL
In all those mile I can count the number of time where i had "Moments of Zen" I was riding up the coast from Newport ca to San Diego Ca. I had my headset on with my Half helmet and just enjoying the road when all of a sudden it was like someone just flicked the switch and all seemed calm.. the wind stopped hissing in my ear, there was no resistance and everything just felt PERFECT!! the sound of the engine just humming... It was like when you are watching a movie and everything goes into slow motion and you can see and feel every detail of everything!!!
It was the Moment I was waiting for from the first time I rode and i didn't even know it..
Hope you all don't think I am crazy LOL I am sure most of us are!!!
All and all I LOVE TO RIDE!!!!! Thanks for letting me share and I would love to hear bout your moments!!!

Just a quick note
So if your here looking at my site, it's probably because I shared a link on FB.
Let me start off by saying that I have had this Blog since 2004. I had it and it just sat there empty. Then one day I decided to start painting in 07. I began loading pics of my new paintings, descriptions, stories, a lot of personal feeling and thoughts with each pic and each post. This is the first time I have "Publicly" shared it with friends and family.
So feel free to look through my older painting and I will try to keep posting about my newer and future paintings. Remember this is my Blog so I will write whatever the F&*% I want to!!! LOL Don't be offended or whatever....
Thank you for visiting and enjoy or as Bob Ross would say "I'd like to wish you Happy painting and God Bless my friend"

14th Oil Painting
So as you might notice formatting in this blog is STUPID.. doesn't do what I want it to..
Ok well this painting hmm where do I start? This was the first painting(Landscape) I have done since 2008 (this was just a few weeks ago Feb 2012) I have been wanting to do a Seascape but it looked so hard to do. I first painted the bottom half with black gesso then after it dried I painted the top half (Background) with red and yellow acrylics. Pretty interesting so far. People said Oh that's cool looking are ya done with it? My reply was I haven't even begun haha..
Here is a quick pict. of where the magic happens, I mean where i paint :)
Blow is the finished picture. I was not too happy with the clouds. I still need quite a bit of practice before I can say yeah I know what I am doing. Overall I felt pretty good for my first seascape :)
I think the craziest thing was that the same very night I went to sleep I had a dream about my Grandpa Joe Alcala. funny how doing something triggers your self conscious. I must say that I do still miss my Grandpa and think about him every time I paint..
Hope you enjoy and I make yyou proud Grandpa :) Love ya!!

Just some oil pencils
So I was walking through the arts n craft store ad saw this box of oil pastels. It had been quite a while since I last painted or sketched ot drawn anything and I was suddenly inspired. I sat up in my office and cranked out one then 2 quick little um crayon drawings? not sure what its called but was just like coloring with crayons yet still able to blend and stayed wet or oily. it was fun...

13th painting
So as you can see this was a Skull inspired painting... My son asked me for a painting that was blue in color and tough looking. here is waht I came up with :) Nailed it haha... I started with a simple sketch then added some Black and white Gesso to highlight the skull. Then I covered the canvas with a coat of clear magic and then a light coat of Pthalo Blue. trying different brushes I added white and black. Blended it to where i thought it looked good and that's it.

Next painting Gosh Whats wrong!!
So there I was setting up my easel and paint brushes tonight.
I primed my canvas with a mix of white and black gesso (Grey).
I began to look at a picture I was going to reference that my grandpa painted. Putting all the steps together in my head thinking every step through as if I had painted this picture a million time in my head.
I could see where every color, every detail would go when all of a sudden I lost all desire to paint.
WOW what the heck, whats wrong with me?
I have painted 9 paintings from dec. 1st to jan 15th and since then I have just been stuck
I guess I will try again this weekend and hopefully this whatever it is will pass.
Here is the picture I absolutely LOVE that my grandpa painted many years ago. I always wished I could have learned how he did it or could have just caught a glimpse of him painting this one. This Picture is probably 24 years old so I was only about 4 yrs old when my grandfather painted it.

Til next time...

Lightning # 9
Alright now I am trying something new which I have no clue how to do.
A buddy of mine showed me this picture of Lightning. It looked awesome and seemed like it would make a cool painting.
So I did some searching online to se some examples of other artist painting Realistic lightning.
No such luck. so I said hey I will try this on a small canvas and hey if it doesnt work oh well I can say I tried.
I really wanted to make it for my buddies B-Day so I did try really hard to make it look nice.
Enough talking here it is. once again these pics are from my cell and I will post some nicer ones once I take em.
Canvas board 8x10

I like the sky color but it was so hard to paint the actual lightning. it came out really thick(fat) but overall for my first try it was cool. I dont think i want to paint lightning and i now understand why i could not find any examples of others painting lightning.
Maybe its one of those things that God made for us to view not paint :)

Link to my paintings on Flickr
I uploaded some picture to My Flickr site so I wanted to put a link here.
A friend of mine said he wants to hang a couple of my paintings in his office. I am like wow i personally think I still need some more practice before some one sees these in an office but he keeps bugging me about it so I am going to let him use a couple for his office.
Here is that link:

Next painting hmmm
Well with all that has been going on I haven't had a chance to paint for 5 days YIKES!!
So lets see I have done a landscapes for winter, landscape for Fall, landscape for spring with mountains, 2 single flowers and 1 flower arrangement in a hanging pot.
What shall I do next?
What I really want to try is either a painting with a beautiful waterfall or an Oceanscape.
Once I get over this cold and cough I will begin and i hope you will enjoy...

Sad day tomorrow
I know this is a blog for my paintings but I will use it today for a place to Vent a little.
Well last week on Friday Dec. 27, 2007 My uncle passed away :(
Tomorrow 12-28-07 is his funeral. This is the second family member in the last 3 months who has died.
This has been a very draining couple of months and I do believe that these 2 deaths have taken a toll on me emotionally. For Christmas even, it was just not so cheerful for me. I mean on the outside I was smiling and talking but inside I just wanted to crawl in bed and sleep for days.
I am sure I will get over this feeling inside and continue painting here shortly.

My Grandpa's Paintings for Christmas
So Christmas time was here and I went to Moms house to celebrate.
She had wrapped me a gift. I could see by the shape that it was obviously a painting canvas of some sort, then she gave me that look as she handed it to me. I opened it from the backside until it was totally unwrapped without looking at the front yet.
As I began to turn it I could tell it was from my grandpas later collection. I was so happy then saddened as I stared at it. A mix of emotions went through me then my mom said I picked this one for you when Grandpa Died.
As I have said in my first post; My Grandpa died on Sept 13, 2007 just over 3 months ago.
about 2 or 3 years ago my grandpa got real sick and to help him recover he started to paint again. his body and mind were not clear and he made several paintings that were unfinished and not very clear. he had lost his steady hand and you could tell that he was struggling. This painting I have is Priceless to me and will remain with me as an inspiration.
I now have 2 of these paintings when he was sick and his use of colors was darker and you could just tell he was not well.
I will in the future take some pictures of his past painting and display them here so all can see what a great artist my Grandfather "Joe (Jose) Alcala" was.
